Our School and Queen Mary University of London Collaborate to Win Approval for Joint "Artificial Intelligence" and "Intelligent Interaction Design" Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Majors
Recently, the Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, Northwestern Polytechnical University (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint School") officially received approval from the Ministry of Education to add two undergraduate majors: "Artificial Intelligence" (080717H) and "Intelligent Interaction Design" (080218H). The School of Computer Science participated deeply in the scheme formulation, curriculum system construction, faculty team building, and research platform support for both majors. This marks an important expansion of the School's disciplinary layout in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Interaction Design. It is a key development in serving the university's internationalization strategy and cultivating high-level innovative talent for the future.
Intelligent Interaction Design Major: A New Interdisciplinary Major Coordinated by the School of Computer Science
The Intelligent Interaction Design major focuses on the core demands of the era of human-machine-thing integration. The Program Leader is Professor Zhang Ying. Relying on the School of Computer Science’s strengths in intelligent interaction, crowd intelligence computing, and large model technology, and combining them with the British partner's disciplinary and developmental advantages in design studies and user experience systems, this major constructs an interdisciplinary training system of "Computer Science + Design + Humanities & Social Sciences." Oriented towards the national strategy for the development of next-generation artificial intelligence, it promotes research on interaction mechanisms for intelligent systems in complex tasks and multimodal environments.Graduates will possess the capabilities to engage in multimodal interaction development, large model algorithms, user research, and product design in fields such as the internet industry, intelligent vehicles, robotics, smart "San Hang" (Aeronautics, Astronautics, and Marine Engineering), urban computing, and AR/VR/Metaverse. They will serve as vital talent support to underpin national strategic scientific and technological forces and lead the transformative development of artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence Major: Building a High-Level Training System with "Solid Foundation, Strong Interdisciplinary Integration, and Promotion of Innovation"
The Artificial Intelligence major relies on the dominant computer science disciplines and national-level research platforms to build a training system characterized by a "Strong Foundation, Emphasis on Interdisciplinary Integration, and Leading Frontiers." The Program Leader is Professor Wang Peng. This major aims to cultivate composite talents with a solid theoretical foundation and innovative capabilities, emphasizing cross-disciplinary integration with NPU's advantageous disciplines such as Aeronautics, Astronautics, Marine Engineering, and Materials Science. The curriculum fuses mathematical and physical foundations with frontier exploration, and the teaching process focuses on empowering education with AI technologies such as large models. The goal is to shape AI leaders who are rooted in theory and capable of leading technological changes, providing core momentum for the country to seize the commanding heights of the intelligent era.
School of Computer Science: Playing a Core Role and Strengthening the "School Advantage + International Platform" Education Model
As the main entity for the construction of these two majors, the School of Computer Science plays a core role in formulating training objectives, constructing curriculum systems, selecting faculty teams, and integrating research with practice. It has fully realized the composite education model of "School Advantage + International Platform," enhancing the depth of internationalization in undergraduate talent cultivation. As a significant force in the university's information discipline construction, the School has long served the national "Double First-Class" initiative and the "San Hang" (Aeronautics, Astronautics, and Marine Engineering) strategy. Relying on the strengths of the Computer Science and Technology discipline, it has formed comprehensive advantages in directions such as Artificial Intelligence, Large Models, Intelligent Interaction Design, and Embedded Intelligent Systems. The full participation in the construction of these two new majors not only enriches the School's professional system for international education but also further enhances its talent cultivation capabilities and international competitiveness in the field of intelligent technology.
In the future, the School of Computer Science will maintain close synergy with the Queen Mary University of London Engineering School to co-build international joint courses, joint laboratories, and transnational research projects. The School aims to construct a globally competitive composite talent training system, contributing "NPU Computer Science Strength" to national intelligent technology innovation and the supply of high-level talent, and creating a highland for talent in Artificial Intelligence and interdisciplinary sciences with international influence.
