【Exchange Program】Call for Applications for the 2025 Spring Semester Exchange Program with the University of Malaya

I. University Introduction

The University of Malaya (UM) is Malaysia’s largest, most prestigious, and oldest university. In the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings, it ranks 8th in Asia, 60th globally, and 1st in Malaysia. Seven of its disciplines (including engineering, data science and artificial intelligence, and finance) are ranked among the top 30 worldwide. Founded in 1905 and located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city, UM covers an area of over 4,500 mu (approximately 300 hectares). As a world-class comprehensive university offering programs in arts, sciences, and medicine, it boasts the strongest teaching and research capabilities in Malaysia.
UM comprises 14 faculties, including the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business and Accountancy, Faculty of Economics and Administration, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Built Environment, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Science. Additionally, it has 2 research faculties, 4 research institutions, and 5 research centers.

II. Selection Information

  1. Target Applicants: Currently enrolled second-year, third-year, and fourth-year undergraduate students, as well as postgraduate students of our university.

  2. Program Duration: One semester.

  3. Language Requirement: No special language proficiency is required for application; applicants may submit a copy and translated version of their College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) or Band 6 (CET-6) certificate.

  4. Major Eligibility: Applicants’ majors must match the majors offered by the University of Malaya.

  5. Academic Performance: Excellent academic records, with a solid professional theoretical foundation and strong practical abilities.

  6. Health Requirement: Physically and mentally healthy, capable of completing the overseas exchange and study tasks successfully (a medical examination certificate must be submitted).

  7. Other Requirements: Meet the specific criteria of the program.

III. Fee Information for Exchange Students

1. Fees to be Paid During Application

  • Program fee: RMB 9,632

    This includes: public university application fee, student’s first-entry visa fee, immigration approval letter (visa approval letter), first-entry arrangement, program management fee, airport pick-up service, and overseas medical insurance premium.

2. Fees to be Paid Upon Arrival at the University

  • Tuition and miscellaneous fees: MYR 5,300

    This includes: university registration and administrative fee, overseas medical examination fee, tuition fee, and visa renewal fee.

  • Accommodation fee:

    • On-campus: MYR 2,800 per semester

    • Off-campus: Approximately MYR 1,300 per month.

3. Additional Expenses

  • Round-trip international airfare.

  • Living and travel expenses in Malaysia.

IV. Application Process

  1. Eligible applicants submit their applications, relevant materials, and pay the required fees.

  2. After the University of Malaya issues the admission letter, applicants proceed to apply for a student visa and obtain the visa approval letter.

  3. Once the visa and visa approval letter are issued, applicants will be notified of the specific departure date and itinerary.

  4. Applicants register at the university and pay the tuition and miscellaneous fees.

Note: If an applicant is not admitted, RMB 500 will be deducted, and the remaining fees will be refunded.

V. Application Materials List and Selection Procedure

  1. Recommended by the applicant’s home university, the applicant fills out the University of Malaya Exchange Student Application Form, prepares the required application documents, and submits them to the University of Malaya’s Overseas Office (China).

  2. Application deadline: November 27, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

  3. Each faculty of the University of Malaya reviews the exchange students’ application materials.

  4. Admitted applicants will receive an admission letter from the University of Malaya.

VI. Funding Policy

Students selected for this program may apply for overseas study funding from Northwestern Polytechnical University (including round-trip airfare subsidy, etc.).
