1.Overview of Undergraduate Education
School of Computer Science (SCS) now has five undergraduate majors, namely Computer Science and Technology, Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data, E-Commerce Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. The average annual enrollment of undergraduate students is 240, and the average number of students is about 900.
SCS has constructed its Computer Science cultivating programs with the features of interdisciplinary, innovation, and leadership. It reflects the characteristics of computing technology in the era of network intelligence, shows the major’s characteristics of comprehensive, systematic, and practical which fits the students’ cultivation principle of “Wide-Caliber with Characteristic Directions”, and meets the demands of integration of industrialization and information technology.
In recent years, SCS won 1 Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement, 3 Provincial Teaching Achievement, 7 National Excellent Courses, 5 Provincial Excellent Courses, 12 Nationally Planned Textbooks, 3 Provincial Excellent Textbooks, 3 Provincial Teaching Teams, and 1 national Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.
2.Overview of Graduate Education
SCS has two first-level disciplines of Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering recruiting and cultivating graduate students. The research directions include Microarchitecture and Integration Technology, Intelligent Sensor SoC, Networked Embedded Computing, Mass Data Storage and Management, Visual and Auditory Information Cognition and Intelligent Computing, Computer Measurement and Simulation, Network Information System Security and Evaluation, etc.
In the past five years, graduate students have published 1,109 papers in important academic journals and conferences at home and abroad, including 301 SCI papers, and 12 monographs, textbooks and translated works; and also have 137 patents of authorized inventions and 21 registered software Copyrights. One graduate student was nominated for One Hundred National Excellent Doctoral Theses, and four graduate students were awarded the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Prize by China Computer Federation.

3.Quality Education
Led by the idea of “public entrepreneurship and innovation”, SCS emphasizes on cultivating students’consciousness, improving the environment, enhancing students' ability, and promoting practices in innovationand entrepreneurship. And relying on the related national platforms, a number of university-level demonstration innovation and entrepreneurship bases have been built.
We will continue to broaden the stage for students to practice and exchange, and deepen school-enterprise cooperation by cooperating with Tencent, ATL and other companies to set up student clubs, and establish internship and practice bases in the national defense and military industrial institutes, the world's top 500 enterprises, and well-known Internet enterprises to carry out internship and practice work. SCS actively hosted the 10th International Doctoral Forum, "Microsoft AI Thousand Training Camp" activities, “Network Security Phospherus” Knowledge Contests, Turing Culture Festival of Northwestern Polytechnical University, “Sanhang Cup” Aerobics Competition and other activities. In these ways, SCS explores the new mode of talents cultivation, and constantly promote students work into a new stage, so as to cultivate socialist builders and successors with all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics and labor education.
4.Students Awards
In recent years, students of School of Computer Science won more than 190 First Prize of different competitions including International Mathematical Modeling Competition, ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, Robot Competition, Computer System Capability Competition, Audio Visual Emotion Challenge(AVEC), Multi modal Emotion Challenge(MEC), Zerospeech Chanllege. Our students have solid basic knowledge, strong practical ability, high comprehensive quality, so as to get high praise of the employers.
