On October 11, 2019, the Special Committee of China Computer Federation (CCF) Database held a plenary session in Jinan, Shandong Province, to elect a new leadership organization of the Committee. Professor Li Zhanhuai of the School of Computer Science, Northwestern Polytechnical University, was elected as the new Director of the Committee. This is the first time that the professor of our school holds the post of the Director of the Special Committee of CCF Database, which plays a positive role in boosting school image in domestic computer field and academic research in related fields.

    The Special Committee of the Database is one of the earliest academic organizations founded by CCF. It was formerly known as the Database Group, which carried out first activity in 1977. The Special Committee of the Database was established in August 1999, which was under the direct leadership of the CCF, and now has more than 200 members. It is one of the several special committees with long history, large scale and great influence among other 34 special committees under the CCF. The Committee has been awarded the Excellent Special Committee for years since the CCF began to select excellent specialist committees.

    Professor Li Zhanhuai who has been engaged in basic research and system development in the field of database for a long time currently serves as the Director of the MIIT Key Laboratory of Big Data Storage and Management. He was responsible for multiple national scientific projects, such as 973 Program, the key R&D plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R.C., the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the major international cooperation projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the major projects of the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program), general projects of Chinese Defense Advance Research Program and National Natural Science Foundation of China. His several database systems have been applied in the related academies, institutes and enterprises. He won the first prize and the second prize twice respectively at the provincial and ministerial levels.
