The School of Computer Science Represented Our School at the Global Partner Week at the University of Twente in Holland
Gao Jun, vice dean of the School of Computer Science, and Chen Bolin, associate professor of Northwestern Polytechnical University, went to Netherlands to participate, on behalf of NPU, in the "Let's Go" exchange activity of the Global Partner Week held by the University of Twente in Holland from November 17 to 22, 2019, aiming to strengthen international communication, deepen the cooperation with high-level universities in Europe, and promote the "Double First Class University Plan" and international personnel training of NPU.
During the activity, Prof. Gao and Prof. Chen, by joining international talent training workshops and visiting colleges and labs, gained a comprehensive understanding of Dutch history and culture, the colleges and curriculum structure of the University of Twente, its unique TOM modular undergraduate talent training model, as well as some professional training programs, curriculum and school hours. They also exchanged ideas on the concept of global competency and how to promote students to further enhance their personal competencies in the context of globalization through international study tours with representatives of European and American university teachers. These hold great importance in seeking a right and effective guidance method to encourage our students to go to first-class universities abroad for further study.
By communicating with the students at the exchange student expo of University of Twente and through in-depth analysis on exchange and training programs, the two teachers have got an entirely new understanding about the training of international talents in European and American universities, especially at University of Twente, and the actual needs and requirements for European and American students to carry out international learning. These achievements and discoveries can throw some light on perfecting the content and structure design of our international exchange programs, improving the English training program for all majors in our university, and attracting excellent students from European and American countries to come to our university for further study. Maarten, the international business commissioner of University of Twente, expressed the hope that our university could conduct an in-depth research on their training mode and provide exchange programs and courses and joint programs for their students to learn in our university.
Another primary mission for the visit is to form a bond with the research groups of computer science programs and related interdisciplinary subjects at University of Twente to lay a foundation for future in-depth cooperation in scientific research and joint training of talents. The two teachers met with the leaders of the research group consisting of five professors of University of Twente, including Paul Havinga, Maurice van Keulen and Dirk Heylen. All introduced their respective research fields during the meeting and both sides were intent on further academic exchanges and visits.
